#1 Company Registration

The first and most important thing is to ensure that the contractor you engaged has a company in Singapore. Thus, this will prevent you from getting into problematic cases of failing to make a small claim in the event of a dispute.

#2 Financial Stability

Know their financial position by checking their bizfile as if they can manage their company finances, they can also meet contractual obligation without the need for assistance. Ensure you hire a contractor has a good credit rating.

#3 Company Background

Another aspect you can do is to read through online reviews on Google, Facebook, or the renovation forum. Some websites provide a rating of a list of contractors that might give you some highlights on the event that may happen.

#4 Certificate & License

Not all renovation work requires a license to process. Unless your building management requires you to find a properly licensed contractor to comply, then you will need to find one.

#5 Friend Recommendation

Has your friend done one or two renovations with this general contractor? Never fall into a mis-leading introduction, Believe only in your research.

#6 Payment Term

Check with your contractor on what is their company payment term BEFORE engaging their service. 50%-50% Payment is always MORE Comfort for any renovation transactions.

#7 Integrity

Some contractors cut corners during the construction and installation phase to save time or money without notifying the client. A contractor that shows integrity = they are reliable and establish good working relationship with those around them.

#8 Experience

Ask for their portfolio or examples of their contracts, status reports, and project schedules to gather a good gauge on their management skills and responsibilities.

#9 Customer Service

Do your renovation contractors listen and understand your requirements? And deliver what was promise? Verbal says “my service is Good” can be laidback when the project start.

#10 Accurate Quotation

Compare apples to apples. Best estimates explain every detail about the job on a line-by-line basis, including specific costs and scope. Underestimating a project leads to understaffing it, misevaluating the quality assurance effort and mis-scheduling.
