Following Japanese Zen principles and philosophy, a Zen design theme calls for a clean and tidy environment. It aims to create a tranquil atmosphere, providing a sense of inner sanctuary away from the stresses of the outside world. The beauty of Zen design lies in its simplicity, minimalism, and meticulous attention to detail.

A Japanese-inspired wall lamp featuring a round window serves as a Zen living feature wall behind the sofa. In a Zen-designed living area, soft, natural lighting is typically embraced, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. This not only promotes relaxation and mindfulness but also helps reduce stress and anxiety. Furthermore, the round Zen design window adds an intriguing visual element, deviating from the typical forms found in most interior spaces.

Moreover, the neutral colour palette, inspired by nature, and the laminate flooring with shades reminiscent of rocks and sandy beaches, contribute to a sense of calmness and tranquility. In summary, they work together to create a visually harmonious Zen design throughout the entire living space.

The highlight of this space lies in its thoughtful arrangement of soft lighting, which can be seen in their choice of sheer curtains, diffused wall lamps, and strategic ceiling fixtures. This arrangement fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere within this Zen-inspired living area.

The fabric sofa with its clean lines and the simple geometric patterned cushions contribute to the overall soft and inviting ambiance. Additionally, the small artwork on the side table introduces a subtle splash of colour and interest without overwhelming the space, thus maintaining a harmonious and balanced environment.

Finally, the presence of tatami mats with their natural texture and earthy scent fosters a calm and tranquil atmosphere, ideal for meditation and introspection.

The Zen design style is ideal for individuals who appreciate simplicity, minimalism, and a serene ambiance in their living environment. It holds particular appeal for those leading hectic, stress-filled lives, seeking a space that fosters relaxation and mindfulness. Zen design style is a favoured choice for living spaces, as it fosters a serene and harmonious ambiance that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.

To achieve this Zen theme, you will need to:

  • Keep furniture simple. Choose fabric sofa with leg, to make interior space light and airy
  • Choose soft and gentle warm lighting
  • Create visual continuity from walls to furniture to floor and décor
  • Create visual softness: such as introduce soft rug underneath the sofa, choose light-toned wood (ash / silver birch)
  • Use daylight curtained
  • Stick to minimalist
  • Choose good storage fixture and furniture
  • Add pot of greenery like orchid and bonsai tree for a more zen inspired interior

Avoid:

  • Overcrowd your room with too many furniture
  • Pops of colours
  • Too many ornaments
  • Cool white lighting such as ceiling lights
  • Florescent and strip lighting
  • Blackout curtain and roller blinds
  • Heavy pattern textile
