Industrial Design - Everything you need to know

What is Industrial Interior Design?

Industrial Design Style is well known for “the warehouse look.” Motivate from its inspiration from old factories and turned into loft dwellings. This style mixes textures like a wood, metal, concrete, brick wall, pipes, exposed rafters, reclaimed wood, iron, brick, and concrete, all the staples within industrial design style and keeping the “unfinished look.”

With minimalist design philosophy, the industrial style relies on incorporating building materials into the house, lighting such as Edison light bulbs, open floor plans, and a cool neutral color palette.

What is traditional Industrial style?

The industrial style came of age in the 2000s when New York factories were converted into industrial loft apartments with open floor plans. The factory basic structural elements of exposed materials and large windows became selling points.

Industrial design is recognized as original if its essential characteristics determine the creative nature of the product's features. Significant features include, in particular, shape, configuration, ornament, and color combination.

While the design is based on minimalist, open spaces, the blend of various rustic materials in furniture and lighting accents provides homeowners the opportunity to bring industrial interior design into any living space. Contemporary homes, in particular, use a combination of industrial, mid-century modern, and farmhouse styles to create a cozy blend in living rooms, dining rooms, or throughout the home.

Unfinished and raw: two words that go so well with industrial design. These spaces are masculine, and outstanding and give an impressive stage of bold furniture and design. Contemporary pieces often feature alongside industrial living room décor.

What are Industrial Design Principles, Characteristics, and vibe?

7 Characteristics of Industrial Interior Design:

Though the industrial look embraces streamlined design and fewer accessories, here are seven characteristics that define the style and could inspire decor ideas:

  1. Neutral distinct color palette
    • Earthy and natural-inspired color schemes work exceptionally well; Industrial spaces don’t simply use shades of white like other minimalist designs. It utilizes the spectrum of whites, greys, and blacks, as well as neutral tones of brown. Sometimes olive green, brown or deep taupe can match perfectly well.
    •
  2. Embrace natural light
    • Industrial decor typically features large windows with black panes, sometimes in a grid pattern.
    •
  3. Highlight architectural materials
    • The industrial style typically has open floor plans and high ceilings. Instead of using drywall or wallpaper, buildings feature exposed brick, concrete floors, industrial pipes, and visible ductwork, showing the incomplete works of industrial hygge for the home.
    •
  4. Repurposed materials
    • A wooden coffee table with castor wheels, a bookshelf made of reclaimed materials, and repurposed dining tables are a staple of industrial style and a great way to bring natural elements into the metal-heavy materials.
    •
  5. Bare light bulbs
    • Edison bulbs hanging solo or in a decorative group as a chandelier are common elements of industrial home decor. If you prefer something less bare, large metal domes, a pendant light, or floor lamps that leave the bulb visible are also popular industrial design ideas. Sometimes, oversize lightbulbs are frequently seen in contemporary interior designs, which is a celebration of form as much as function as you can see all parts of the product.
    •
  6. Graphic lines
    • Whether it’s a windowpane or an iron wheel on bar stools, this style loves clean, graphic lines, particularly created with black metals, rather than sinuous lines and patterns. This is not to be confused with the graphic and highly stylized look of art deco, which highlights bold colors and metallics.
    •
  7. Create coziness with natural textiles
    • Fabrics like weathered leather or linen work well in these environments for both furniture and accents, creating a lived-in and cozy feel.
